Professor Andrew Perfors is Director of the Complex Human Data Hub at the University of Melbourne’s School of Psychological Sciences. His research explores how people learn from and communicate with one another—and how those interactions, in turn, shape the broader information environment. His work spans key areas of cognitive science and misinformation studies, including concepts, language, decision-making, social psychology, information transmission, and cultural change.
Andy combines computational modelling with experimental research to examine the goals human learners pursue in different contexts, the constraints they face—cognitive, social, environmental, and informational—and how these factors influence behaviour at both individual and group levels. He also investigates how such behaviours feedback into and transform the informational landscape itself.
