How can collaboration, technology and emerging talent help create a more sustainable and resilient future for agriculture?

This event showcases the Smart Greenhouse and Living Lab, an initiative by The University of Melbourne and CAS Energy, a technology and automation solutions partner. Together, they combine research, industry expertise and emerging talent to address challenges such as food security, water scarcity and climate-driven agricultural disruption.

Attendees will discover how the project brings together controlled environment agriculture, renewable energy systems, digital technologies and circular water management to explore new approaches to sustainable agriculture. They will also learn how the SCOUT program connects organisations with high-performing students through a multidisciplinary collaboration model that addresses real-world challenges.

Created by students across architecture, science, engineering, IT and business, the project highlights the value of diverse expertise and industry collaboration in developing solutions with real-world potential. More than a production system, the Smart Greenhouse and Living Lab provides a platform for research, teaching and ongoing industry partnership.

Dr Bow Tauro leads the University of Melbourne's SCOUT program – an innovative talent and internship platform. Bow holds a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Melbourne and has worked in research, health-tech, start-up, sales, corporate advisory and partnership roles. Bow has experience in commercialisation, capital raising, business development, strategic sales, partnership management and project management.

Dong Tran is the Managing Director of CAS Energy, a clean technology and agri-tech company pioneering the integration of renewable energy, climate-smart agriculture, and circular economy systems. With extensive experience in sustainable infrastructure and energy innovation, Dong has led the development of projects that combine solar energy generation, smart grids, battery storage, and advanced agricultural production systems to improve food security, energy resilience, and regional economic development.
